The east midlands area team are among the most formidable groups of cyclists you could ever encounter. The senior men's team won the last inter area team championships by a very handsome margin, and even our 'B' team was able to beat the majority of other areas 'A' teams.

Our veterans team was narrowly beaten into silver medal position at the championships, having been regarded as favorites but suffering a lack of form.

As is typical of younger riders, our youth team has showed flashes of brilliance, proving that they will form strong senior teams in years ahead.

The only disappointment for me as area coach has been the lack of women competing in our area. So few competed last season that I was unable to form an area team. Hazel Wakefield was the only woman to represent our area - she was good enough to make it onto the youth team (beating many lads). This year I hope that women throughout the east midlands are setting their sights on the inter-area team championships.
